When summer approaches we all start to think of those awful hot windless nights when we cannot get to sleep and wish we had an air conditioner. Many of us work in an air conditioned workplace, then drive home in an air conditioned car then when we get home we have to face the reality of no aircon. Well you don’t have to, there are lots of different types of air conditioners around that you can use to help keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. The type of air conditioner that you choose will not only depend on your budget but what type can actually be installed in your home and suits your needs.
Some Portable Models are a litte more than personal coolers. Others can cool small room (up to about 20 sq meters) Portable Air Conditioners can be plugge in to a normal power point. Some Portable Air Conditioners are a little noisy. You can expect to pay arounf $700 – $3000 for a portable air conditioner.
A Window Model is installed in a window, and can cool rooms and open plan area of up to 50 sq metres. While Smaller units can be plugged into a normal power point larger ones may require additional wiring. Units start from $500 up to $3500.
A Split System air conditioner consists of a Compressor Unit that is installed outside, and one or more indoor units inside. They are used to heat or cool one or more rooms, or an open plan area of about 60 sq meters. They cost around $1200 to $5000.
A ducted air conditioning system is usually installed in the roof or outside on the ground, and ducted to air outlets throughout the house. They cost from around $5000
With conventional air conditioners, the compressor is either on (working 100% capacity) or off. Inverters can vary the compressor speed and maintain the set temperature, withing a narrow range. Manufacturers claim inverter models are morefficient and reduce runnins costs.
